hello there every doggie
momma pittie here for the first time i am allowed to post a bloggy of my very own. the most gracious and beautiful queen of all that is furry coco chanel has given me her blessing to make my special post about mr guero's beginnings.thank you, your majesty i will try to do you proud.
ok well where do i begin , , , , i felt that today would be proper to tell the story of guero since yesterday was his 7th birthday and it made me very sad knowing that he is considered a senior now.actually when one of my co workers mentioned that to me i got tears in my eyes just thinking that he is getting old.you see all my fur kids are special tome as you all know but guero . . . . guero is my heart. guero is what started it all for me. guero is the reason i so passionately advocate pibbles.before guero i never had a dog. all my life i grew up with cats. my mother adores cats and we all still do.but guero came into my life and completely changed it in a way that i will never forget.
if you guys will bear with me i shall start at the beginning.
i remember one sunday evening we were on our way to walmart and it was extremely hot as summer evenings tend to be here in houston tx. the type of heat that is humid and blistering if you stand out there too long.well . . . we saw a young couple such as me and my husband were and she shyly came up to me and asked if i would consider taking in a pet. of course we weren't interested . we had just moved into our first house we were renting and had no idea if pets were allowed and hadn't even considered it. i asked what type of pet and she said a 4 month old pitbull. she was almost crying and i asked why she was getting rid of it and she all but broke down right then and there. she said that she had lived in a house not too far away from where walmart is and that her neighbors had bought a pitbull he was just about 7 weeks old when she first saw him and they tied him up outside to a tree and she could hear him crying his little lungs out all day and night. she could also hear them hit him and beat him to be quiet. it was breaking her heart to see this beautiful puppy get so mistreated.well about a week later she overheard through her fence the man talking about the dog and how he'll eventually learn to be quiet with the beatings or else he'd stop feeding him until he learn to shut up. this girl said that she was moving out with her boyfriend that weekend and she could not stop thinking about that puppy. that saturday night as they were packing the truck for the last trip she saw that the puppy was chewing on the leash he was tied to.well her and her boyfriend sat there and waited and within 20 minutes the puppy was loose. they immediately called him over and put him in the truck and left. well needless to say she fell in love with the puppy but she had to find him a home because she was going to college after the summer and couldn't care for him.so . . . me being the sucker for stories that i am agreed to take a look at this puppy i heard so much about. we walked over to her van and she picked up this red little bundle. she handed him to me and i picked him up and looked at his face and then my world just faded away in his eyes. he had the most gorgeous Japanese eyes i had ever seen and he kept giving me his puppy eyes that i just knew were asking me to love him. he gave me a cautious lick on the nose and it was over! i don't think i had ever been that impulsive before. i had never imagined i would love something so fiercely so quick. just thinking that someone had beat this bundle of love made me angry. all these emotions going through me all at once. i asked the girl how much she wanted for him and she said nothing. she just wanted him to go to a good home and if she could please have my address or email . i gave her my address that i had on my id card and my email and cell phone number just in case she wanted to come ck on him. we didn't even make it to walmart. we went straight to petsmart and enrolled him in the vet , got him some toys and all the puppy stuff that comes with getting a pupper. when i took in guero i never even thought about him being a pitbull. i just loved him unconditionally because he was so loving. but i quickly realized that having a pitbull was not like having a regular dog. i remember the second time i took him to petsmart this time on his leash and now 5 pounds heavier. i was so excited to have my puppy with me and he was so loving and just loved on everybody. i started to notice how people would go out of their way to get away from us . we would get nasty looks and they would pick their dogs up if we passed by their isle. guero of course didn't notice any of this he was jolly and happy to be sniffing all the treats and food petsmart has to offer. same thing at the parks . mothers would grab their child and walk the other way, joggers would run on the grass instead of the pavement to get as far away from guero. i realized that people hated my guero just because of how he looked. i would go home crying so many times at the beginning because i didn't understand. why would anyone hate my guero? he was the most precious thing in my life and so loving all he wanted was to give kisses to all humans and dogs alike. until then i was naive about dogs. i started to research about my guero's breed. look up organizations that rescued these breeds and realized all the horrible things they had endured and still endure. i cried many days reading all the cities and states that ban them just because of how they look. i decided that with guero i would make it a point to start changing peoples minds slowly but surely. even if its one person a week , a month , a year . one person can tell one more person and so on. and so my quest began. i started with family and friends. everywhere i went guero went. family reunions . weekend visits.barbq's .i am proud to say that 5 families of mine now have at least two rescue pitbulls living inside their home and they are spoiled rotten. and they tell their friends and i hope the cycle goes on. out of my 3 best friends 2 of them have pibbles as well sleeping in their bed.
my mother in law who was terrified of dogs in general has a pibble who she loves so much he gets homemade meals everyday especially made for him..we still get friends bringing over their friends to see the infamous guero. everyone loves the way he looks and even more the way he acts. he is so loving and everyone you talk to in my circle of friends and family can tell you a story about guero . . i don't want to think about ever having him NOT in my life. just the thought makes my eyes leak as my fur kids say. i know that realistically one day im going to have to live without him that is why when i see our dear bloggin friends going through having to say good bye to their beloved fur kids it breaks my heart and i pray very hard for them because i know how much it would devastate me to have to say good bye to my fur kids. until that time comes i will cherish every moment i have with them. my guero changed me into who i am today. i was never outspoken about issues until i had to defend him. i never had a passion for anything in particular until i had to defend him. and i never knew how one sweet pibble kiss could melt a humans heart until he kissed me that one fateful sunday at walmart.
so on his 7th birthday week
heres to my guero , my heart

Sandra,
Yes, Guero is a special dog and Mona & I can't wait to meet him and the rest of your pack. It's wonderful to talk to someone else who is truly a dog person. I thank you so much for the call a little while ago. I will call you as soon as I get Mona back home.
Thanks for being who you are. Love Sarah & Mona
Dear Pibble Pack and Wee Ones, I just do NOT know what is up with my mom. She said she was going to be Sick and then she started to cry. I told her this was a GRRRREAT story and then she goes and acts like this..
I am soooooo happy that Guero has the wonderful life he has. I am soooo THRILLED that he changed your two legger's lives too. The bad stuff is GONE and the Super stuff abounds.
Just the bestest most super story of love and need and huge heartedness EVER!!!!! SIGH
Now I gotta go tend to my mom. The silly thing.
That was a great story momma pittie. Thank you for sharing it with the rest of us. Guero is SO handsome too :)
Woofs and Licks,

What a great story. I'm so glad you're sharing these stories about the origins of the pibble pack. Seeing how fun, loving, and amazing they are now, it's hard to believe the circumstances they came from...and that there were actually beatings involved. The part about how they treated him because he is a pitbull made me sad. When I first got Miss M I felt like that too. I don't know if it's me that changed, or maybe just the neighborhood, but fortunately we don't see much of it any more. And you are doing such an amazing job supporting the reputations of pitbulls. I'm interested to keep reading and hear about the rest of the pack's origins...
That sure was a happy feel good story. Thank you for sharing it with us
your friends

Oh no! I read this and had to go and get Beth right away to have her read it. NOW SHE IS CRYING! She keeps saying how nice you were to take this little guy in and how people need to listen to people like you and not be so judgemental. Now I am just getting all confused because she's trying to talk and cry. I better go -- I think she needs a hug....
(great post, by the way....)
Puddles mum here...
That was such a beautiful, happy, inspirational story. I for one have began thinking about the day I loose Albert or Whitney since they are already 8. Now, don't get me wrong I love all my dogs with all of my heart but Albert holds a very special place in my heart. I've wondered how will I commemerate his life, will I call the vet to come to my house, will I cremate him, will I fall into a severe depression? So many things and thioughts have run through my head. I get you pittie mom. But mostly, I admire you for you challenging peoples bias....and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Just telling one person about the beauties of a pibble can go a long way.
I think you were meant to go to that WalMart that day for a reason. It was to find your best friend. Anyway, You are a wonderful person and you have an amazing pack...give Guero a big ol squishy hug:)
Allison
That was a very much Most Beautiful story, Mr. Guero's Momma. I thinks you are one of the nicest, kindest peoples in the whole wide world.
Peoples are CRAZY to judge anybuddy just on what they look like. And don't even gets my mom started on those places that say that pawticular dogs can't live there just cuz they were born looking a certain way. My mom doesn't understand why some humans don't get that it's not the dogs - it's the peoples they live with. Like that nasty man that Guero used to live with. Gosh, did Guero ever haves a guardian angel living next door to scoop him up when he finally got himself free!
Anyways, I luved hearing about Guero's story and I luv that he ended up with wonderful you, who can see all his dear qualities and all his sweet preciousness and treat him the way he - and all us doggies - deserves to be treated!
Wiggles & Wags,
mayzie (and mom)
hello mrs. pibble mum~!
bless you for taking in guero! her deserves a great family like yours!
you had my mum in tears. and i sniffed a little too.
thank you for sharing this wonderful story~!
XO,
luna and mum
Thanks for sharing how you and Guero came together. That girl deserves a big hug and a pat on the back for rescuing him. You have already gotten your reward for taking him in and loving him all these years. It's a crying shame how Pitbulls have been given a bad rap by the hoomans who mistreat them. We hope you, Guero and the other pibbles have many many more years together.
Waggles,
Bijou
Oh geez Momma Pibble...my momma is all leaky over here...AGAIN!
That is the most wonderful, beautiful, touching, and inspiring story. You are Guero's angel and I sure am glad you decided to keep him and show him what life is supposed to be like.
We lubbing you all in the pittie pack and we would not walk the other way if we saw woo coming and I know for a fact that my little two-legged boy would run up and give you the biggest smoochie and biggest squeeze because our momma teaches him not to judge and not to fear. We get weird looks too when we go to the doggy park because there is a doberman there named, Monty and our boy LOVES monte and the other people sometimes gasp and give our momma tisks under their breathe, but our momma just turns the other cheek and sometimes she smoochies them RIGHT IN THE MOUTH for everyone and everydoggy to see!
Hope you had the bestest birthday dear friend! Woo are such a special boy!

He's very lucky to have found you!
That is such a poignant story. It's a shame that this breed now has such a frightening image due to a few irresponsible people.
Happy Birthday! I loved that story!
Thanks SOOOO much fur sharing that -
It had to bring bakhk so many memories to do it -
Mom knows the stigma/perception of pitties
AND that is why she's sure to use the term PIBBLE - bekhause woo are truly PIBBLES!
Yes, she was meant to go to Walmart that night - just like my mom was to khome in the SPCA when I was there and the dog she khame in to see was gone
Things happen fur reasons!

So sorry to be late in arriving! I had such a hectic day at work, then it was Champagne Thursday and well.... glad to be visiting the story of "our" very special Guero! I think Guero had an angel in his corner with the young lady neighbor who cared enough to get him away from a very bad home. She did the right thing!!! Then you and your husband took in this sweet boy.
Oh we loved the story of Guero, and it made us sad AND happy because we know that many pibbles needing homes have some now because of Guero's great example of how a pibble really is, and you.
I sent you an email about Indica, a beautiful female chocolate pibble rescued by my son-in-law and his brother. Indica was found running alongside a busy road.. They pulled over and she jumped in their truck and the rest is history. She too is as sweet as sugar and very loving and gentle.
Thank you for sharing Guero's story. Thank you Coco Chanel for letting your mom do this heartwarming post. If I ever get to Houston, Texas it would be such an honor to meet all of you.
And of course, Halle sends her very best sugars to her sweet Guero.... a birthday pressie is going to be put in the mail over the weekend...... Many hugs to all of you and of course, extra kisses to Guero the Model and Miss Halle's boyfriend. You need to know Guero's picture is framed and is on the table right next to where she lounges in the living room. xoxoxoxo <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
Thanks for sharing Guero's story!
I know he is very special for you!
It is amazing how our furkids make us better persons, right?
We love you all!

What a beautiful story of how you and Guero met! I'm so sorry that he had such a rotten start in life, but then you and your husband came along and he became your little prince. He's been loved soooooo much ever since. And, with him came the passion you now have to help other people understand Pibbles. How wonderful is that?! Please give Guero and all of your crew lots of hugs and kisses from me, and keep a few for yourself. You have a heart the size of, well, Texas!
Pibble Momma,
We absolutely loved your story and momma's eyebally's are leaking just a little bit now.
Guerro is such a lucky chap and such a wonderful boy too!
We love you guys !
P(ee)S: Lilly says Guero is just a little pup at age 7!
Thanks for making me cry at the library! ;) I am a lot like you in that I was never really passionate or outspoken about issues until Spuds came into my life. I had only heard bad things about pitbulls and was wary of being around one...until I actually WAS around one and that changed everything. Everytime someone brings something up abt pitbulls i also try to plead their case in a way that others will be receptive to, because, if we dont defend them noone will! You're amazing for taking in Guero, you saved his life :)
Wells Pitt Crew...I thinks bout taking over da world at times. Likes when I'm dreaming, eating, playing, peeing, chasing squirrels, chasing ground hogs, taking a baff, taking a dump, watching tv, reading a crime novel, shopping, or terrorizing da neighbors. I guess I pretty muches thinks outs it all da time.
Does you haves sumptin in mind?
Puddles
Hi,we are honestly very glad that you took Guero home. can't imagine what would have happened to him.
it is not the fault of the pitbulls that they are shunned in general. A Dawg is NEVER EVER rude or agressive all by itself. Its the human behaviour and attitude that changes a darling little puppy to a terror.
Guero is so very handsome.
Mummy simply adores his confident look. She send a HUGE hug for him.
wags, Buddy n Ginger
Happy 7th Birthday week Guero. May it rain bones from the sky.
Love Ruby & Penny
Oh what a story! We are so happy that young couple took him away from that bad place! And we are so glad you gave him a wonderful loving home without any doubt because of his breed. We have found so many wonderful pibble friends we just can't understand why people are so afraid of them. We have always believed that there are no bad dogs out there, just owners - but we know a lot of people don't feel that way. But we think you all help to change that opinion for a lot of people!!
Happy Happy Birthday Guero!!
Talk about how things can change in a heartbeat. You were at the right place at the right time. Everything happens for a reason. Such a touching story, thanks for sharing with us.
Happy Birthday Guero!
Such a happy ending to a very sad beginning. Guero is one lucky guy, hope he had a great birthday! Thanks for sharing such a lovely, heartfelt story.

Madi and Mom
Happy 7th Guero, he is a handsome doggy!
Wow! What a story!! Happy Birthday big guy!!!
Happy Birthday Handsome!
That is such a sweet story; you made my eyes leak!
Please give Guero a big hug and kiss for me.
And then give Brinksey one too so he doesn't get his little feelings hurt ;)
He is so beautiful. A wonderful story and it is a wonderful thing for your very first dog to have been a pity-pibble. I have known so very many sweet pibbles. Good to know you are now an advocate for this most misunderstood breed. There is an organization in Texas fighting against breed specific bans. I will look it up and be sure to return and give you the name. Good job! In any breed, the humans can make one crazy/mean. Sadly the dogs get the bum wrap for how they have been treated by the humans.
We applaud you and your efforts!
Hugs
Sunny&Scooter
This is beautiful! Happy Birthday, Guero!
Happy Birfday to the Guero!!!!!
Bad canine behavior, regardless of breed, is almost always due to human error.
Guero is a Sweetheart! We so KNOW how you feel about him. My the Mom shares LOTS of those emotions!
High five to you for helpin break the stereotype. When will people ever understand... it is not the dog, but the owner!!!?
Just sayin.
wif love from the Luke
Our mommy was in tears when we were reading the post together. Your Guero, your heart...touched our hearts as well. What a terrible start in life. It reminded us of a similar incident. A friend's neighbor had a dog in a small kennel, day in and day out, and the dog was miserable being stuck in there all the time. The friend got another friend, a bolt cutter...dognapping complete! He now has a wonderful family, just like your heart, Guero. Aaaah...
