Such a loss is incomprehensible. I can NOT imagine your pain. Just know that you are NOT alone. You are in my prayers, my thoughts. You will find a way to muddle through somehow. But it's going to take time. Give yourself what you need to cope. Take care.

Please accept my condolences for your loss i have no comforting words to help you through this darkest moment but i have this beautiful poem i found in other group about goldens retrievers and i hope it helps you and give you the strength you need to cope this tragic situation ..

I will lend to you for awhile,
a pup, God said,
For you to love him while he lives
and mourn for him when he's dead.
Maybe for twelve or fourteen years,
or maybe two or three
But will you, 'till I call him back,
take care of him for me.

He'll bring his charms to gladden you
and (should his stay be brief)
you'll always have his memories
as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay,
since all from earth return
But there are lessons taught below
I want this pup to learn.

I've looked the whole world over
in search of teachers true
And from the folk that crowd's life's land
I have chosen you.

Now will you give him all your love
Nor think the labour vain,
Nor hate me when I come to take my Pup back again.

I fancied that I heard them say
"Dear Lord Thy Will be Done,"
For all the joys this Pup will bring,
the risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter him with tenderness
we'll love him while we may
And for the happiness we've known forever grateful stay!
But should you call him back
much sooner than we've planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes,
and try to understand.

If, by our love, we've managed,
your wishes to achieve!
In memory of him we loved,
to help us while we grieve,
When our faithful bundle departs this world of strife,
We'll have yet another Pup and love him all his life.

Sandra, asking 'why' over and over is going to give you no comfort because there is NO answer. God didn't cause the fire - a set of circumstances set in motion earlier in the year by your dry weather accelerated your tragedy. Not many people know this, but my first son died at the age of 2 months. I could have asked 'why me' over and over but something my priest said to me rang true: Why not me? He said that there are times when it is our turn to be the 'other guy' - the guy on the news or on the front page of the newspaper. None of us is immune. That doesn't mean that we should be happy about our pain but it helps us to realize that we were not singled out for sadness - not by God or by Nature or by the Universe. All of us are equal when it comes to horrible events taking place during our lifetimes.

When we watch the evening news we see so much heartache and sadness. We look around at our healthy families feeling very blessed. But, there are other times when it is our turn to 'be the other guy'. Yes, your sorrow is immense - you lost your home and your sweet dogs and your feeling of 'being safe'. But, look into the eyes of your child and realize that - even with all the horror - your most precious Gift from God was saved for you.

All of us will be here with you for as long as it takes (and then some). Hold tight to your sweet child and your husband and to your immediate friends. They will be your foundation as you rebuild your home and create your future. God bless you, your family and your dogs.

One other positive thing from this is your devotion to pit bulls and although you may not realize it, you have educated many many people about this truly misunderstood breed of dog. How many pit bulls can live together in peace with love and care. One thing is for sure Sandra, I will ALWAYS support a cause for pit bulls because of your never ending care for them and any rejected and unloved creature. They were very fortunate to have had you, especially Shelby. You saved her life Sandra. We are here to help you. Do not hesitate to post or email whatever you need. Please. We came across your blog a year ago through Dog Foster Mom and have alwasy been so impressed by what a good, kind, hard working human being you are.You renewed our faith in humankind on days when people seemed less humane and more deranged. We followed Shelby's story with baited breath.Hoping against all hope that she would thrive. Would know happiness. And love. And she did.Thrive.Know happiness and love. You gave her that. You gave all of them that. And that is worth something. We can not choose when life is taken away but we can choose to live. You must continue to live, and eat and love.Because life is for the living. And you are here. And your family is here. And your two dogs are here. All is not lost.We love you and your spirit. You are valuable. You made a difference. You make a difference.Go forth knowing that.In the meantime, we wish we could carry some of your pain and we will try to in a small way by sending you love every day, and by thinking of you and how much your very special, loving essence means in this world.

this is my first visit to you, but that does not alter the pain in my heart for you and your family. My prayers are with you and I pray God will give you strength to get through this. I can not even begin to imagine the hurt you feel at this time. Woofs and hugs for you from me and my pets Jake and Baby.

Oh my dear friends, I am just hearing the horrific news and I just don't know what to say. Words escape us. We have been struggling with our own loss of our Ellie, but to lose what you did - it's just too much. Life can be so cruel to those that don't deserve it at all. I know that all your pups knew love and shared that love with you all daily. Our heart aches for you all. Dane kisses coming your way.

Sending you big hugs - my eyes are brimming with tears as I think of your heartache. I hope you know that you provided each and every one of those dogs with so much love...they were lucky to have experienced your love! I can't imagine how you must be feeling, but know that all of us out here in the blogosphere are thinking of you, praying for you (and your dogs), and ready to help in any way we can!

God knows that you care, Sweetie. If you did not care, you wouldn't be hurting so badly. You gave those dogs something they didn't have before... you gave them the time and opportunity to feel genuine love and to know life can be good. I know it won't help very much right now, but here is a giant band-aid for your heart.

We love you Sandra. Yes, God must see you as very, very strong. He never allows something so awful to happen without a reason.

You are incredible. Please know that, though I hardly imagine the pain you feel, I am crying too. Godspeed.

Love,
Kim

I empathize with you - I had several of my animals perish in a horrific barn fire (the barn was 30-ft high x 60 ft deep x 40 foot wide). And I caused it - I was trying to keep some young goats warm (they were my babies) during a very cold winter. They were my first of many and I loved them as one would a dog. They followed me everywhere - I birthed them, fed them, and doctored them. I was ignorant of heat lamps and the ability of baby goats to jump up and knock them over...they did...and we all paid for my ignorance. I cried for the longest time and had horrible dreams. I was unable to save them because by the time we woke up it was already totally engulfed. I will never forget it - we had several other animals in the barn that perished as well....the moms of the babies and 2 piglets. It will live with me forever.
My heart circles you with love and hope that some day you will forgive yourself. You are also involved with other animals that totally depend on you as well and you are a great person that has done much for rescue and healing....bless you for that....and yes, why you? Don't know....we'll never know. But what we DO know is that you are loved, that you are thought of by hundreds of people as a loving human being. Go give the surviving babies a love and lay with them if you can - cry and feel their warmth, their kisses, and their gratefulness for getting them out of danger. Take care and be well...
